Makapolū Builders is owned and operated by Rachel Wailana Whalen-Holderbaum. A native-Hawaiian woman contractor raised on the Windward side of O’ahu. Starting off with minimal knowledge in the industry, she worked her way up from a pool supplies retail salesperson to Vice President of Design and Engineering with one of the largest pool contractors in the islands. Under the tutelage of John King of All & Spa, Inc., she was given the opportunity to learn all aspects of the aquatic feature industry. Rachel now has over 20 years of experience in commercial and residential water feature design, management and administration, construction and maintenance and repair.

Rachel is a true local, not a transplant, and believes honesty and integrity in business are just as important as the quality of workmanship.
